Bandar Seri Begawan - The Brunei Muara District received several appreciation awards yesterday during a ceremony held at the Fire and Rescue headquarters Multipurpose Hall.
The certificates were presented by the Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Adanan Begawan Pehin- Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Hj Md Yusof, who was there as the guest of honour.
Brunei-Muara District emerged as the champion for the Majlis Santap dan Persekitarannya category, second place for the Kelengkapan dan Perhiasan Padang category and third for the Persembahan Padang during the His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam‘s 61st birthday celebrations.
The minister, in his speech applauded all the people involved in the district‘s success.
"I hope that the success and triumph can be achieved with greater passion in the future," he said.
The minister went on to say that it was not just a mere celebration, but most importantly was that it served as platform to enhance the spirit of patriotism, teamwork, unity and solidarity and promote greater understanding among people of all walks of life in the sultanate.
The unique characteristics and pure values have been moulded into Bruneians and has been practised for centuries, the minister emphasised. "As this constitutes the strength and way of life for Bruneians, it should be preserved and instilled among our younger generation," he said.
He noted the district‘s success in organising this year‘s Majlis Persantapan during a Get-Together ceremony between His Majesty? citizens and residents of the country at the strategic waterfront where the "Mercu Digarhayu 60? monument was erected, could be regarded as a historic moment.
The minister touched on all the areas that made the month-long festivity one to be looked forward to every year, from the arches, colourful lights decorating the roads leading to the palace, to the bazaars in the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan.
The uniqueness and speciality of the countless side events organised at the national level gave? support and added value in promoting Brunei Darussalam as a tourist destination, as it attracts large numbers of tourists to visit the country, said the minister.
He expressed his gratitude to all the parties involved from the public to the private sectors as well as individual sponsors who did not only give contributions in terms of money but also their energy.
Yesterday‘s event was attended by head of ‘departments, senior government officials, executive officers from private sectors, local entrepreneurs, sponsors, members of the various committees involved in the celebrations. Also present were heads of mukim and kampongin the district.
