Culture By The Bay Features Artworks by Students, Budding Artists

Singapore - There is a special arts event exhibiting works by young students as well as budding and professional artists at the Singapore River belt till the end of August.

The event, called Culture By The Bay, was launched by Rear-Admiral Lui Tuck Yew at the Asian Civilisations Museum on Friday.

It is organised by the National Heritage Board, National Day Exco 2007 and the Education Ministry.

Some of the best entries from over 4,000 students of various ages have been reproduced on 35 art sculptures along the Singapore River.

There is also an Arts Fair on 28 and 29 July where exquisite pieces of artwork will be put up for sale.

RADM Lui said Culture By The Bay provides opportunities for young Singaporeans to gain new experiences and develop social skills.

He said: "As successes and pursuit for excellence must be tempered by a sense of who we are and where we belong, it is important for students to experience moments that bring them back to their roots so that they can better understand their cultural DNA."
