Kuala Belait - The eagerly awaited boating race event, ‘Rafting Klassik‘ organised by Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP), will take place along the Belait River at the Kuala Belait Boat Club this Sunday, August 12 starting from 1pm. The event is held in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam‘s 61st birthday celebrations in the Belait District this year.

The objectives of the Rafting Klassik are to test the ingenuity, creativity and stamina of the participants in terms of constructing and operating the rafts.

It further serves to provide a fun-packed event for residents in the district and to foster the spirit of friendship and goodwill among participants.

Some 50 raft teams from BSP, BUNG, BSP/BLNG contractors, private companies and various government departments in the Belait District will be competing in the event.

This year, the participants will compete in three categories namely pedal powered raft, paddle powered raft and paddle and wind powered raft.

All the rafts are designed by the teams themselves and are usually built from PVC pipes, drums, logs and bamboos with different concepts.

As this is a team event, the teams will dress up with their own eccentric costumes to best distinguish their respective themes.

Prizes will be awarded for the best dressed costume and other surprise prizes are also to be won.

An interesting part of this raft race is that teams are usually equipped with water-guns and water balloons to attack their opponents while racing against one another. It is no wonder that this event is hailed as the most awaited event in the BSP calendar and the participating teams have been increasing annually.

Members of the public are welcome to this fun-filled event to support their teams and their rafts.

The organiser has also arranged a variety of entertainments for children, magic show and family games that start at 10am.
