Bandar Seri Begawan - In conjunction with the festive season of Aidilfitri, various communities yesterday afternoon visited the residence of the Deputy Chairman of Mukim Kianggeh Consultative Council (MKCC), Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Laila Begawan Mudim Dato Seri Utama Haji Ismail.
According to businessman Lim Ming Siong, who was among the Chinese community members who visited the deputy chairman‘s house, it is important for Bruneians, irrespective of race and religion, to stay united and work together to take the country to greater heights.
He said Hari Raya should serve as a platform to narrow the gap resulting from the differences in opinions and misunderstandings on sensitive issues such as religion and race.
He added that this was demonstrated by the willingness of the Muslim community to invite their non-Muslim friends of all races to join in the celebration through ‘open houses‘, a Malay tradition that reflects mutual respect and tolerance of other cultures.
Aside from the Chinese community, the open house was also attended by Malay and Indian members of MKCC.
