Bandar Seri Begawan - "Research and development at SEAMEO VOCTECH has now taken a rightful course and direction. When there was only a few research activities conducted in the past years, the Centre has intensified its efforts, and now, we have ventured into the Southeast Asian Vocational and Technical Education Research and Networking, or popularly known as SEAVERN."
This was stated by Mohd Saiful Hj Omar, Acting Director of SEAMEO VOCTECH, during the opening ceremony for the Regular Training Programme in Institutional Research in Vocational and Technical Education and Training (VTET), held yesterday at the SEAMEO VOCTECH Centre in Gadong.
As stated in the course outline, realising that not all VTET institutions in SEAMEO member countries have optimally used schools` statistical and research information for continuous improvement, the SEAMEO VOCTECH Centre in Brunei is hosting this training programme to help strengthen institutional capacity by enhancing their knowledge in institutional research.
This course is prepared specifically for those involved in institutional research and development, such as those who compile and manage institutional information or school statistics, conduct student and alumni surveys, and those involved in measuring performance indicators for the institutional strategic plans.
"This course serves as the opportunity to connect educational ties among one another as well as to continue to nurture the cultural bond of belonging to one region and the same passion of improving the VTET system, especially in research," Mohd Saiful further stated.
Among the objectives of the course are to enhance the knowledge and skills of the participants in planning, conducting and using institutional research.
Participants of the course include members from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Myanmar. The course is scheduled to run for two weeks from August 18 to August 30. By Amie PDH Ishak
