Bandar Seri Begawan - More than 50 people from Asia and Europe recently took part in the International Kite Festival 2007 held in Padang of West Sumatra, Indonesia. Brunei Darussalam was among those who took part in the three-day event.
The Sultanate was represented by Hj Ahmad Abdul Rahman, Hj Abdul Jalil Hj Bakar, Hj Mohd Yassin Muhammad, and Hj Abdul. Samad Hj Abdul Rahman, the head of the Brunei contingent.
Brunei showcased more than 30 types of local kites including the `Siar Manjar` kite, `Sijula` kite, `Rokako` kite and `Delta` kite. One of the interesting kites was the `Delta` kite created by City Neon Sdn Bhd that illustrated the national flag of Brunei.
According to Hj Abdul Samad, it was the second time this year that he flew the kite bearing the image of the national flag. Previously, he flew the flag in Thailand on February 23 in conjunction with Brunei`s National Day celebration.
He expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister`s Office for permitting the Brunei contingent to fly the national flag during the international competition event.
The August 13-15 event, which was officially launched by Drs H M Fauzi Bahar, the Mayor of Padang.
