Brunei Proves Invincible, Winning Tug Of War In Lawas Fest 2007

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Brunei tug-of-war team proved to be invincible by emerging champions in the Lawas Festival 2007 (Pesta Lawas 2007) held recently. The same team topped the championship previously in Pesta Tamu dan Gasing (GATA) in Sipitang, Sabah.

The team which consisted of men from Ministry of Development was entrusted by Brunei Darussalam Tug-of-war Association to represent the country in the invite. They came in strong even after defeating three teams in Group A to meet Pedoman Limbang from Group B. Second runner-up was Sangka Kala from Limbang District.

Ten teams vied for the title whilst four women team braved the challenge which used the KO-system.

Presenting the cash prize of RM 1,000 and a trophy was the Minister of Resource Planning and Management and Minister of Sarawak Public Services, Dato` Sri Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

The Lawas Festival is a biannual event which brings participation from neighbouring countries Sabah and also Brunei, joining for the first time. Apart from tug-of-war, top-spinning and regatta were also contested.

The most interesting of all was probably the bullock race.
