Malaysia - Back in 1957, the nation faced many challenges, among them was providing housing for a growing population that encompassed urban and rural divisions.
As the nation grew and prospered, the settlements, kampungs and new villages of Malaya which once dotted the landscape eventually gave way to the sprawling housing estates and planned communities that define much of Malaysia’s property landscape today.
Sime Darby Property, with the support of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government has now embarked on a year-long alliance with Media Prima to provide Malaysians with a visual reminder of the nation’s housing industry, to chart a fundamental indicator of the nation’s progress over the past 50 years.
The documentary will be aired for a minute daily on TV3’s Buletin Utama and on selected days over the Nightline English News and ntv7’s Edisi 7.
The year-long programme, entitled 50 Tahun — Malaysia Kediamanku, will provide viewers with an insight into traditional homes and architecture, communities, ethnic and cultural influences in Malaysian homes, building materials and significant moments in the nation’s history.
“One way of looking at the nation’s development can be seen from how it has coped with the housing needs of the population as it migrated from the rural areas to urban centres which began offering new opportunities and employment,” said Sime Darby’s divisional director of property, Jauhari Hamidi.
“With our long involvement in the housing industry, it is very appropriate for Sime Darby Property to commemorate the nation’s 50th birthday by charting how Malaysians have moved from traditional homes to new urban and suburban lifestyles and communities,” added Jauhari.
