Students Invited To Study In Malaysia

Bandar Seri Begawan - Several Malaysian educational institutions are taking part in an education exhibition which is being held at the Mall in Gadong.

Among the institutions in the two-day affair include the University of Kuala Lumpur, International College of Advance Technology (Sarawak), Universiti Malaya, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Curtin University of Technology (Sarawak).

Senior Manager of University of Kuala Lumpur Abidah Zainualdin said that it is the first time the university is participating in the education exhibition in Brunei.

She said the university has received positive response from the community and would like to see Bruneian students to enroll in the programmes offered by the university. Among the courses run by the university include all engineering programmes, except civil engineering.

She said that graduates of the university are "market ready" for they would not require further training once they became professionals.

Undergraduates will be given six months internship while undergoing their studies as part of training programme and will be sent for work attachments.

"Price is not an issue because the school fee offered by the university or any other university in Malaysia is much cheaper than those offered by universities in Australia and America," Abidah said adding that the quality of education is on par with international universities and recognised worldwide.

Muhd Waiyuddin Hj Abd Rahman and Nadhirah Raihana Han, who had just graduated with diploma in education from University of Brunei Darussalam, were among the visitors at the exhibition.

They told The Brunei Times that they were interested in studying in Malaysia due to the cheaper school fees, similarities in culture and language. Furthermore the courses take shorter time to complete and one does not need years of experience to enroll.

Both agreed that Malaysia`s universities offer the same quality of education as any other international universities and receive the same recognition in Brunei Darussalam.
