Religious group launches website to promote understanding of Islam

Singapore - A website started by the Khadijah Mosque aimed at educating people about the correct teachings of Islam has received close to 12,000 hits.

The Religious Rehabilitation Group (RRG) website was launched on Friday evening by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Wong Kan Seng.

According to mosque officials, the most frequent visitors to the website include netizens from Singapore, Tokyo, California, Washington and London.

The RRG was formed in April 2003.

It consists of Muslim religious scholars in Singapore who volunteer to counsel Jemaah Islamiyah detainees, and help them understand Islam better.

There are currently 29 counsellors who have conducted nearly 800 counselling sessions for the detainees so far.

Another 10 sessions have been conducted for the families of the detainees.

Besides counselling, RRG has also been extensively involved with community engagement programmes.

Mohd Feishal Mohd Hassan, Counsellor, Religious Rehabilitation Group, says: "People will be able to get real answers from real scholars of Islam projecting the real message of Islam and the beauty of Islam rather than the misinterpretation of ideologists pervaded by extremist groups."
