Significance of Nuzul Al-Quran Explained

Bandar Seri Begawan - NUZUL AL-QURAN or the commemoration of the revelation of the Holy Quran falls on the 17th of Ramadhan and is one of the highlights of the holy month of Islam.

As Islam is the main religion in Brunei, various religious activities have been held throughout the holy month of Ramadhan to glorify the teachings of the holy book which culminates in the commemoration of the Nuzul Al-Quran.

Nuzul which roughly translates into the transfer or revelation refers to the revelation of the first verses of the Holy Quran to Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) on the 17th of Ramadhan.

In seeking the opinion of the public, The Brunei Times spoke to several students from MTSSR on their understanding of the event who explained that they realise the significance and history of the event but declined to comment on their personal understanding of the event itself.

Nuzli Hj Jumat, a BA Syariah graduate of the Islamic Studies Institute in UBD, when asked of what the event means to him personally, said that the revelation of the Holy Quran and the Holy Quran itself is to be referred to as the ultimate guide in life.

The Holy Quran, he said, "should be our guide from being lost and ignorant to learned and become well adjusted".

The event itself he further pointed out is meant to teach us to be appreciative and be humbled by the magnificence of the miracle and to take its teachings to heart and to follow its examples in our efforts to lead our lives accordingly.
