RTB Educates The Public On Malay Language, Literature

Bandar Seri Begawan - Radio Television Brunei (RTB) is currently showing a weekly segment on its morning television program "Rampai Pagi" in an effort to educate the general public on the Malay language and literature, as well as to instill interest and wider usage of the language.

Entitled "Segmen Bahasa dan Kesusasteraan Melayu", the segment receives cooperation from Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) with its Director Dr. Mataim Bakar as the program facilitator.

Inaugurated last Oct 13, the half-hour segment is telecast live from RTB studio in the capital every Monday from 8:30am. The current season is expected to end on May 4.

Every week, a distinguished guest will appear on the program to talk on selected topics on Malay language and literature.

A panel is chosen from a pool of writers and lecturers from University Brunei Darussalam (UBD), as well as officers of DBP.

According to Aminah Hj Momin, DBP Deputy Director, the objective of the project is to expose the public on the Malay language and literature.

"The panel will talk about the subject he or she is comfortable with either on Malay language or Malay literature.

"Two studio announcers will ask questions on the topics tackled by the panel," she said. The inaugural screening of the segment last Oct 13 saw Prof Madya Dr Hj Jaludin of UBD on the program, speaking on the subject of linguistics.

Aminah also had the opportunity to talk about Malay literature a week later on Oct 20.

UBD`s Dr Hj Ramli Hj Tinkong appeared on Oct 17, while a local journalist talked about Journalism Literature at last Monday`s program.
