Brunei hosts BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games

Bandar Seri Begawan - "For the first time Brunei Darussalam is hosting the BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games with the objective of promoting "Cooperation Through Sports" and celebrating the true meaning and spirit of the games between member countries," said Hj Zamri bin Dato Paduka Hj Hamdani, event chairman, during the flag raising ceremony yesterday at the National Stadium.

The flag raising ceremony was followed by the introduction of the Chef de Mission and presentation of souvenirs by the guest of honour, Dato Paduka Awg Hj Jemat bin Hj Ampal, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry Of Culture, Youth and Sports.

"A total of 844 athletes and official, from 13 contingents from five countries have registered for the games. And we have accommodated a total of more than 500 staff, officials, liaison officers and technical officials including volunteers.

"This year`s games do not only highlight sports competition events but we also have arranged a number of related activities such as BIMP-EAGA Youth exchange and BIMP-EAGA Exhibition," Hj Zamri said. By Rohani Hj Abd Hamid
