Bandar Seri Begawan – Fifteen contestants representing the country‘s four districts vied for the championship in the final of the Quran Recital Competition ( Tilawatul Quran) organised by Pertiwi Association, Brunei-Muara branch, yesterday.
In her welcoming speech, Datin Paduka Hjh Jusnani Hj Lawie, the co-chairperson of the contest hoped that " the competition would give a chance for the members from all districts to bond together and strengthened their relationship."
She said that the event would be able to renew the determination for the development of women, especially the association itself.
Among the objectives of the competition was to improve the understanding of the teachings of the al-Quran by being closer to it and at the same time, to unite the Ummah, especially members of the association.
The competition was also hoped would help in realising the association‘s aspiration to makethe al-Quran as a way of life.
The competition was a biennial project of the association since 1990s. This year‘s competition was divided into three categories: Category A was for those aged 18-35 years, Category B for 36-50 years and those above 51 years old competed in Category C.
Tutong, Belait and Temburong districts each sent one contestant for every category while Brunei-Muara district was represented by two readers in each category.
The event was highlighted by a Tausyeh performance by members of the association.
Winners of the competition will be announced at a prize presentation ceremony to be held later.
Present as the guest of honour was Datin Paduka Hjh Zaharah Hj Idris, the association‘s president.
The function was held at the Islamic Da‘awah Centre in Kampong Pulaie.
