Bandar Seri Begawan - Two local singers, Raapulrizal Abdul Karim and Hajah Dewi Hairani Haji Thani, both came in fourth place in the Bintang Klasik Nusantara 2007 - Irama Serumpun singing competition held at Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia recently.
The duo each returned home with a trophy and RM2,000 in prize money.
The competition was telecast live on TV1 of Radio Television Malaysia (RTM), and saw singing talents from the region including those from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
Hosted by Malaysian artistes Haliza Misbun and Nurul, the competition was judged by musical experts from the region, including Dato Ahmad Nawab of Malaysia, Karim Masdor of Singapore, Andy Ahmad of Indonesia and Fathan Haji Anuar of Brunei Darussalam.
Raapulrizal Abdul Karim won the hearts of the judges with his rendition of Aziz Jaafar‘s "Mawarku", while Hajah Dewi Hairani impressed them with her rendition of Salamiah Hassan‘s "Surat Terakhir".
Local artiste Pengiran Mohd Yusri was also invited to perform alongside other regional artistes, such as Dato‘ M Daud Kilau, Dato‘ DJ Dave, Dato‘ Yusni Hamid, Zahid, Bob, Dayang Nurfaizah, Safura, Esther Khoo, Azhaina, Nassier Wahab, Jamal Abdillah, Taufik Batisah and Mayasari, during the competition.
Meanwhile, the local representatives, led by Hasnan Suhaili, were interviewed during the Selamat Pagi Malaysia television programme, which was telecast live on RTM‘s TV1.
