Bandar Seri Begawan - Twenty-Four primary six pupils and five teachers from the Anggerek Desa Primary School visited the exhibition hall of the Islamic Da`wah Centre at Kampong Pulaie, yesterday.

According to Siti Zaharah Ahmad, one of the accompanying teachers, the visit was part of the school`s annual project for pupils who had completed their Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (PSR) or the Primary School Assessment Examination. "Other places we are planning to visit are the Brunei Meteorological Service of the Department of Civil Aviation, the Youth Development Centre at Lambak Kanan as well as the Arts and Handicrafts Training Centre in Jalan Residency," she said.

There are more than 100 primary six pupils studying at Anggerek Desa Primary School, according to Hjh Jauyah Hj Batang.

"The pupils are divided into groups and each group will go to different places for a study visit,” said the teacher.

She went on to say that one of the objectives of the study visit was to give exposure to the youngsters the history of their own country and Islam, which is relevant to their studies.

The visitors were taken around the exhibition by Hj Ibrahim Hj Matali, the head of the exhibition, photos, archives and video unit of the Islamic Da`wah Centre. He also briefed the youngsters on the various items on display. The exhibition hall has been in existence since the establishment of the Islamic Da`wah Centre on January 1, 1985.

The hall was launched by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on September 16, of the same year.

The exhibition hall is divided into a number of sections, including a section showcasing the personal collection of His Majesty`s and a historical exhibition especially focussing on the development and propagation of Islam in the sultanate.

Md Fairul Md Juffrey, one of the students said that, although he had visited the centre before, he still found it interesting and educational. He was particularly interested in the Akidah Control Section of the exhibition.

The centre`s latest addition to the exhibition was the censorship and publication control section which was launched by Dato Paduka Hj Ishaaq Hj Abdullah, the deputy permanent secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, on September 19, 2006 in conjunction with the centre`s customer day.

As for the women teachers, the item which attracted them the most was the cloth used to cover the Ka`abah, from one of His Majesty`s collection, which was presented by the ruler of Saudi Arabia.

The exhibition is open to the public during office hours.
