Bandar Seri Begawan- The theme for next year‘s silver jubilee celebrations is ‘Kedewasaan Bernegara‘, as the country rejoices its 25th year of independence.
This was revealed by Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud bin Haji Bakyr, the special duties officer at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, at a press conference held yesterday afternoon.
To commence the planning of next year‘s celebrations, the Ministry is calling for citizens and permanent residents of Brunei Darussalam to participate in a contest to create a logo for the auspicious event, as well as the creation of a patriotic song.
According to Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud, the current logo has been in use for the past four years and, in light of the magnitude of the silver jubilee, a new and fitting version is needed from seasoned and innovative participants.
Submitted pieces are required to be original and convey the main theme as well as the message that it carries - that our country, albeit young, has matured and is worthy of the challenges set in the international arena.
Interested patriots can obtain participation forms at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Level 5 which will include more information on the regulations and guidelines.
Submission for the logo creation is due at 4pm on August 26, 2008, whereas the closing date for the submission of patriotic songs is 4pm on August 28, 2008.
In addition to the prestigious honour of their logo being used, the winner will also be awarded B$2,500 in recognition of their efforts. By Narissa Noor
