Bandung - Bandung will reverberate with the sound of bamboo music this coming weekend, in the 4th. National Bamboo Festival, to be held at the Ganesha Cultural Center in this cool city on 2-3 October 2010. The Festival, which is part of the World Music Festival takes as its theme this year: “the Re-Invention of Baboo Music and Culture”.
A parade of angklung music,- the bamboo music indigenous to West Java -, and other music of bamboo rhythm and string instruments from around the archipelago will be featured. There will also be a workshop, seminar, and exhibition, as well as culinary food presentations of bamboo. There will be the Giring-Giring music from Lamandau in Central Kalimantan, the Sasando Gong of Rote island in East Nusatenggara, the Rampak Kentongan of Purbalingga in Central Java, the Angklung Carub of Banyuwangi, East Java and the Plumeria from Japan, said Director General for Tourism Marketing DR. Sapta Nirwandar.
Speakers at the Bamboo Talk Seminar are Marc Peeters and Chamim Marka together with the research institute of Bambu Nusa Verde (BNV) in Yogyakarta. The BNV transfers bamboo technology developed by the Belgian OPRINS Plant Company.
Highlight on Sunday, 3 October is a grand performance to honour maestro of bamboo music, the late Wawan Juanda, featuring famed Indonesian musicians Dwiki Darmawan, Gita Gartina, Yuki TendoStar and Andy Rif accompanied by the Bamboo Orchestra.
